Dumbo!

February 23rd, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

I seem to have inadvertently emailed about 170 past, present (and possibly future!) colleagues a picture of my dog.

Whilst worse things happen at sea (I’m told) and whilst our dog is undeniably cute, I did not intend to send it to that many people (including…ahem…a certain very senior person at Google UK who I happened to work for a number of years ago in a different company). Whilst none of you have complained I thought it wise to ‘fess up if you visit this site.

This time the Dumbo is me…

Dog Friendly Pubs in Devon

February 6th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

I love dog friendly pubs.

We have an English Springer Spaniel and I don’t feel right about going out and leaving my dog at home.

It goes without saying that these pubs will usually only welcome friendly dogs on a lead.

The Double Locks / Exeter

About half an hour’s walk downstream from Exeter is the Double Locks. It’s super dog friendly and many owners will simply let their dogs off the leash. They do good food, have logs fires in winter and a lovely outdoor beer garden and deck beside the canal in Summer.  They have a yearly dog show too and most of the time sport some wickedly strong local ciders.

The Hourglass

Food to die for. Very popular and busy. Best keep dogs under tables – if you can get one. Some may quietly dispatch me for revealing one of Exeter’s best dog friendly pubs.

The Fat Pig

Food to die for. Hamish the owner is a real foodie, so the menu is awesome. They brew their own cider called “Rusty Pig”. Three pints of this and you’ll be feeling no pain whatsoever. Dogs allowed on leashes.

Two Bridges Hotel / Dartmoor

After a gentle walk to Wistman’s Wood, this hotel welcomes dogs on leads. We haven’t tried the food but the portions look generous, and you’ll be doubly happy if you bag a Chesterfield by the log fire.

The Mill On The Exe / Exeter

Lovely waterside pub which welcomes friendly dogs. Nice big sofas, fires in winter, summer terrace and beer garden too.

I’m just starting this list and have more to add in due course.

If I’ve missed a pub you’ve found or run, please email me at rob@robburns.net.

And if you appreciate this page, share the link love.

1 hour and 10 years

February 3rd, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Often, I think people don’t understand what goes into jobs. Or the real value that experience over time brings.

Think about the master craftsman who has trained for 10 years but then does a job that takes just an hour. Are you really paying for just an hour of work? No.

What you’re really paying for is that 1 hour + 10 years of experience.
